In the mid-1990s, a young man Rhys Darby made the transition from being a soldier in New Zealand’s army to becoming a comedian and eventually, an aspiring actor. Over the years, the transition from military life to entertainment has paid off. He’s starred Jim Carrey’s Yes Man, appeared in Nike ads and held a role in HBO’s Flight of the Conchords. Fifteen years into his career, he’ll be making a different kind of transition.
Rhys Darby is gearing up to play the role of Stede Bonnet in the upcoming HBO Max series, Our Flag Means Death. The series takes a closer look at Bonnet, a privilege aristocrat who makes the decision to become a pirate. Along the way, he finds that his interesting personality and unpredictable tendencies can make him endearing and a target at the same time. Along the way, he’ll be joined or threatened by Taika Waititi, Leslie Jones and several other star actors.
Our Flag Means Death will set sail in March. In the meantime, check out the teaser below.
