Lupita Nyong’o has won Best Supporting Actress for her role in ’12 Years a Slave’.
The actress was very gracious in a teary acceptance speech.
“Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition,” said Nyong’o. “It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to the pain in someone else’s, so to the spirit of Patsey my thanks”.
This is Nyong’o’s first feature film as well as her first nomination and win.
Nyong’o, who was born in Mexico City and raised in Kenya, said this Oscar would give hope to others.
“When I look down at this golden statue, may it will remind me and every little child that no matter where you are from, your dreams are valid. “
