Cate Blanchett has won best actress for her work on ‘Blue Jasmine’.
Blanchett beat out Amy Adams (‘American Hustle’), Sandra Bullock (‘Gravity’), Judi Dench (‘Philomena’) and Meryl Streep (‘August: Osage County’) who she graciously thanked in her speech.
This is Blanchett’s second win and fifth nomination. She had already won a Golden Globe, SAG Award and a BAFTA this season.
Blanchett last Oscar win was back in 2005 for ‘The Aviator’
During her speech, she spoke on Hollywood’s rejection of female movies.
“Those who think films with women at the center are niche: they are not, people want to see them and they make money”.
