Oscar De La Hoya knows a thing or two about participating in major fights. Throughout his career, he has fought the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Felix Trinidad. Recently, he shared his thoughts regarding an upcoming fight that hopes to rival some of the major fights he’s participated in.
On Saturday, July 29, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. will put it all on the line as they fight for the undisputed welterweight title. Heading into the fight, De La Hoya believes it will be a close contest, but he thinks Crawford will walk away with all of the division’s belts.
“I think it is a 50/50 fight,” he told TMZ during a recent trip to New York.
“I like Crawford, I’ve always liked Crawford. I mean, I love Spence, but Crawford has more of the elusive style, more combinations. It’s gonna be a good fight. If Spence wins, he’s gonna knock out Crawford. If Crawford wins, it’ll go to decision.”
De La Hoya isn’t the only person who believes Crawford has the edge heading into the fight. Teddy Atlas and Carl Froch also believe Crawford will walk away victorious while Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Adrien Broner believe Spence Jr. will win. Both men will have the opportunity to prove their supporters right when they meet at T-Mobile Arena on July 29.
