On Friday, May 30, 2025, Golden Boy Promotions put one of its top prospects, Darius Fulghum, to the test against Bektemir Melikuziev, a once-beaten super middleweight contender who has stopped nearly 75% of his opponents within the distance. However, Melikuziev testing the super middleweight prospect may not be the biggest story to emerge from the Golden Boy Promotions event in Las Vegas, Nevada. Instead, many fans were excited after hearing Oscar De La Hoya talk about the future of the promotional imprint during an interview at ringside.
“I’m excited,” De La Hoya told Brandy Flores at The Theater at Virgin Hotels “I’m really excited to announce that I am talking to [Premier Boxing Champions (PBC)]. We are going to make the best fights happen for the world to watch. All of our roster at Golden Boy [Promotions] is going to go up against PBC in the near future. That’s what we’re putting together. I’m super excited because we have a lot of great matches. We’re talking about [Isaac] ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. We’re talking about [David] Benavidez with possibly [Gilberto] ‘Zurdo’ [Ramírez] in the near future. [We’re talking about] Vergil Ortiz with [Tim] Tszyu, Keith Thurman or whoever they want to throw at him from PBC. Let’s go. We’re ready.”
Before Premier Boxing Champions or Golden Boy Promotions can move forward with a potential “5 v. 5” card, both promotions must make it through the summer. At Golden Boy Promotions, several of the promotions’ most coveted signees, including Darius Fulghum, Gilberto Ramirez and Floyd Schofield, must win their upcoming fights. Meanwhile, PBC has big fights coming up for its signees, including Caleb Plant, Jermall Charlo and Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
