Oklahoma City Thunder shooting guard Andre Roberson will miss around 3 weeks with knee surgery, according to ESPN’s Royce Young.
From Young:
An MRI on Monday confirmed the sprain. Roberson’s injury will not require surgery. After three weeks, he’ll be re-evaluated to determine his return to play.
Roberson, 24, injured the knee Sunday in the second quarter against the Brooklyn Nets when Russell Westbrook crashed into his leg following a layup attempt. Roberson exited the game and did not return.
Kyle Singler started the second half in place of Roberson on Sunday.
This injury hurts for the Thunder. Roberson may not bring much offense, but he’s a great perimeter defender. OKC isn’t the deepest team in the league, so every injury to a rotation player counts against them. When you have Kyle Singler playing significant minutes, that’s a sign that your wing depth needs improvement.
Roberson has averaged 4.9 points and 3.3 rebounds in 21.7 minutes per game. However, his impact has been huge for this team in a way that those numbers can’t show: his defense. Hopefully Roberson recovers well and can return to the court in good shape for OKC.
