Former Maryland star Dez Wells went undrafted this June, but played in the Summer League for the Washington Wizards. After the Summer League, he turned down the Wizards’ training camp offer, instead joining the Oklahoma City Thunder’s training camp. Now, he will reportedly sign a regular season contract with the Thunder.

Dez Wells was excellent during his third and final campaign with Maryland, averaging 15.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1 steal per game, while shooting a spectacular 51% from 3-point range. He was named to the first-team All-Big Ten, and was an AP All-American Honorable Mention.
Wells played both guard positions in college, but at 6’5″ he will likely be a shooting guard at the professional level.
The Thunder obviously have a ton of talent on their roster, and therefore Wells is probably going to spend most of his time playing for their D-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. However, it’s great that Wells is beginning his pro career. Even if he plays primarily in the D-league during his rookie season, he’s sure to learn a lot and adjust to the NBA level. Wells has the potential to eventually be a very solid role-player in the NBA.
