The Oklahoma City Thunder did not waste time finding a new head coach after (rightly) firing Scott Brooks. And that’s a good thing. The quicker you replace. The more time the players and the new coach has to get acclimated to the new changes.
Billy Donovan is a great hire. I think that he’ll do just fine in Oklahoma City. And they all have to give him a chance. Especially Kevin Durant. Because if he bolts and flops in his new home, wherever that is. That’ll damage his career. OKC GM Sam Presti was considered a god when he assembled that NBA Finals team a few years ago. Recently he’s been hit and miss. But now, he’s taken time. Looked at everyone available. And pulled the trigger.
Presti targeted Donovan as Brooks’ replacement and spent two days in Florida making the pitch to him.
“We cast a wide net, we stepped back and looked at lots of different people,” Presti said. “But as we were looking through the candidates and people we had identified, it became pretty evident to us that Billy Donovan was the right person for this position, to lead the Thunder on the sidelines.“
I agree with Presti on this hire. It’s a smart hire. Donovan is legit. Hopefully Kevin Durant will feel the same. I mean that’s all that matters right?
