
Actor Oh Yeong-su has reportedly been charged with sexual misconduct. Thus far, he has been released without detention.
The 78-year-old actor has been accused of inappropriately touching a woman in 2017. The alleged victim initially filed a complaint against the actor in 2021, but the initial case was closed in April 2022. However, the case was reopened months later at the alleged victim’s request.
Oh Yeong-su has issued a statement regarding the matter and maintains that he is innocent of the charges levied against him.
“I just held her hand to guide the way around the lake. I apologized because [the person] said she wouldn’t make a fuss about it but it doesn’t mean that I admit the charges,” he told South Korean broadcaster JTBC.
Oh Yeong-su is well-known actor with more than 50 years of experience in film, theater in television. Over the years, he has appeared in films such as Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring and the South Korean adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire. He is best known for his role as Oh Il-nam in the popular Netflix series, Squid Game. His role in the series earned a nomination at the 2022 Golden Derby Awards and top honors in the “Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film” at the 2022 Golden Globe Awards.
