Offset has joined the American Cancer Society in raising $500,000 for the organization. The Atlanta rapper’s inspiration for the cause comes from his grandmother, Sallie Ann Smith. Smith died in 2012 from bladder cancer.
“It was really tough losing my grandma to cancer and one of the hardest things I have dealt with in my life. She motivated me to do my best and go for it; one of my biggest coaches,” Offset said in a news release.
Offset’s mother, Latabia Woodward, is an American Cancer Society supporter and volunteer. Woodward said in the news release that “losing a loved one to cancer is devastating, and we need to continue to help educate our communities about early detection and screening guidelines.”
On Tuesday, Offset attended the campaign’s launch party at Main Event Entertainment in Atlanta, Georgia. There, the rapper met with teenagers and young adults who had been impacted by cancer.
