Viola Davis is set to produce an adaptation of Octavia Butler’s novel, Wild Seed, for Amazon. Davis is set to co-produce the adaptation with Julius Tennon of JuVee Productions, which signed a first look deal with Amazon not too long ago. The script is also set to be written by author Nnedi Okorafor and Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu.
According to Deadline, “Wild Seed is a love (and hate) story of two African immortals who travel the ages from pre-Colonial West Africa to the far, far future.” After the announcement was made, Davis said, “Wild Seed is a book that shifted my life. It is as epic, as game changing, as moving and brilliant as any Science Fiction novel ever written.” She later added, “Julius and I are proud to have this masterpiece in our hands. It fulfills our promise and legacy to be disrupters.
Wild Seed marks the second time Butler’s work has been adapted. Victoria Mahoney and Ava DuVernay are currently working to turn Butler’s work, Dawn, into a television series. However, there is no set release date for either upcoming adaptation.
