After the news of Flip Saunders naming himself Head Coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Love talks died down for a while.
But in the past few days, Boston, Denver and Golden State have thrown their hats into the ring. There were light rumors about Chicago but it’s safe to say they’re concentrating on grabbing Carmelo Anthony.
If I had to place them I’d put Golden State first, Denver a close second and Boston third.
Lets start with the Warriors.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com the Warriors are openly throwing Klay Thompson into the pot in efforts to get Love along with David Lee…
Sources told ESPN.com that Golden State, after initially resisting Minnesota’s desire to land Thompson in a Love deal, has relented and is now willing to package Steph Curry’s trusted backcourt mate along with David Lee and first-round pick in a trade for Love that could materialize quickly with the 2014 NBA draft looming Thursday.
That is crazy talent right there. A great deal for Minnesota to lick their lips at.
Now let’s compare that to the Nuggets offer. Back to Stein…
The Nuggets can offer the likes of forwards Kenneth Faried and Wilson Chandler along with the No. 11 pick next wek, but Golden State is uniquely positioned to send a former All-Star forward to Minnesota in Lee as well as one of the game’s most feared perimeter marskmen in Thompson.
Took the words right out of my mouth. That’s a half decent offer and I like Faried, but you’d have to be mad not to take two All Star quality players like Lee and Thompson.
Now with Boston, there are a lot of mixed signals. Some people are saying their offers are nowhere near as good as the Warriors or Nuggets… But there are other people saying the Celtics have the best offer going.
It’s hard to pinpoint how good the deal is because there’s so many of them. The best looking one is one reported by ESPN’S Draft guru Chad Ford…
I continue to get strong signals that the Celtics are trying hard to use pick No. 6 and 17 along with future No. 1s and young players such as Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk to persuade the Minnesota Timberwolves to trade them Kevin Love.
Now that is half decent. It all depends on what Minnesota want…
If they want to win right now, take Thompson and Lee. But if they want to build for the future (and I don’t believe they want that again) go for Boston.
I don’t know where this is going to go. But it’ll be the making of whatever team that’ll have him by next season…
