Emmanuel Mudiay has had an unimpressive start to his career. This season, averaging just 12.1 points per game on 11.2 shots and 37% shooting, unimpressive may be putting it kindly. But, he is only 20 years old, so he most likely has some value. According to Zach Lowe, the Nuggets have tested the waters to see what they could nab in return for that value.
The Nuggets are quietly exploring what they might get for Emmanuel Mudiay and multiple picks, sources say, but they’re in no rush to move Mudiay
While not being in a rush is probably not their choice, it is interesting that the Nuggets may already be prepared to move on from their young point guard. He has shown glimpses of potential and the Nuggets have one of the youngest rosters in the NBA. Unfortunately, they are also tied for the 8th seed in the West.
Not making the playoffs since 2013 may be pressuring the front office to make a move now. They have a good crop of young players who are all playing above average basketball. The point guard position is currently their position of weakness. If they were able to trade away Mudiay and picks for Eric Bledsoe, like Lowe suggests, this may not be the worst possibility.
The fragility of winning and losing a trade makes this situation tricky, however. Trading away your future for your present has a very checkered history in the NBA. Let’s hope the Nuggets do not get too carried away with the potential of the present. The 8th seed just means a playoff series against the NBA’s juggernaut.
