Ty Lawson is one of the most underrated point guards in the league. Constantly getting assists. Definitely one of the best passers in the game. But because he plays for the Denver Nuggets who have been consistently mediocre for the past few years. His efforts fall on deaf ears. What also fell on deaf ears. Is his attitude towards the game. Sometimes he just seems lazy. The Denver Post is reporting that the Nuggets may be done with him.
Once considered an untouchable on the Nuggets’ roster, the point guard’s actions over the past two years have done everything to remove himself from that space. His new reality? He’s as susceptible to the next good trade offer as any other tradeable player in the NBA.
The Post also documented everything bad Lawson has done. And it’s worth reading.
Arrested on suspicions of a DUI. He missed a shootaround late this season. Claiming to have an “illness”. He missed the Nuggets’ first practice post All-Star. Why? Because he was chilling in Las Vegas.
They may be one time occasions but there comes a time where it all stacks up. Oh and don’t forget he was the leader of the “Fire Brian Shaw” club. So there’s that. Sure he does alright on the floor. But that occasional laziness will come back to bite him. And after the “I Wish” fiasco. When Lawson was talking about playing in Dallas. That may have been the nail in the coffin.
These actions have not endeared himself to an organization that can now, more than ever, be persuaded to trade him if the right offer is made. His “I wish” Instagram put many Nuggets fans into the category of moving on from him as well. He has done all of this to himself.
Now if he is traded. The team that gets him will have to set the standard. Why has his laziness not been unpunished? I don’t see the Nuggets docking checks or suspending him. He missed a practice because he was in Vegas for crying out loud!
