Boston Celtics continue to be the most active team in the NBA. In the last week they have completed 2 trades sending away some big time prospects. There was the trade with the Phoenix Suns to ship off Brandan Wright and 3-team deal involving Jeff Green going to the Memphis Grizzlies. They also are working on a possible deal to send Austin Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers and don’t forget the impending buy out of newly acquired Tayshaun Prince.
Now it looks like the C’s aren’t done making moves as they exchanged guards with the Denver Nuggets, who also seem to be big sellers in the last few week themselves.
The following from Yahoo! Sports Marc J. Spears:
The Boston Celtics have agreed to a trade to send point guard Jameer Nelson to the Denver Nuggets for Nate Robinson, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The Celtics are expected to negotiate a buyout of Robinson’s $2.1 million contract and waive him, sources said. If Robinson clears waivers, the Los Angeles Clippers could be a candidate to sign him. The Clippers previously had talks with the Nuggets about Robinson, sources said.
Robinson to the Clippers addresses their need to score more on the perimeter, especially at the wing guard position, due to some bench struggles.
Nuggets traded away Timofey Mozgov last week and as of recently they’ve been fielding calls about some other assets they currently have on the roster.
Celtics are in tank-now mode and it may be the same for the Nuggets. Look for a firesale of assets soon, especially if the Nuggets gave up one of their top bench players for basically nothing. Jameer Nelson isn’t exactly the same player he was a few years ago.
Nelson, 32, began the season with the Dallas Mavericks and came to Boston in the Rajon Rondo deal earlier this season. He is averaging 6.8 points and 4.4 assists in 29 games this season while currently fighting off an ankle injury. Robinson, 30, is averaging 5.8 points and 2.3 assists in 33 games this season with the Nuggets.
