On December 20, New York City council voted to honor the legendary Notorious B.I.G., the Wu-Tang Clan, and Woody Guthrie with streets named after them. A unanimous 48-0 vote, Biggie will be honored with Christopher Wallace Way in Brooklyn, Wu-Tang will receive it’s honor in Staten Island with the Wu-Tang Clan District, and Guthrie will be honored with Woody Guthrie Way, located in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn.
LeRoy McCarthy, a cultural advocate who lead and pushed for the street names told Gothamist,
“I’m happy that NYC officials are finally giving the city’s indigenous ‘Hip Hop’ music the respect and recognition that it deserves. It took a long time and lots of hard work to advance the Christopher Wallace Way & Wu-Tang Clan District street co-naming, but ya know what, Hip Hop Don’t Stop.”
