First things first, keep in mind Kevin Durant isn’t a free agent until the summer of 2016. So another season and a half, essentially 18 more months.
So who knows what the reasons are this might be coming out of KD’s camp. According to reports though, Oklahoma City Thunder star, Kevin Durant, has considered playing with his friend, New York Knicks All-Star Carmelo Anthony when he becomes a free agent in 2016.
From Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
“No question about it,” says a person close to Durant. “Kevin loves Carmelo (Anthony). It could work in New York. But never rule out the Thunder.”
Durant, who is expected to play against the Grizzlies, spent part of Wednesday’s pregame chatting with Anthony on the court. He is close to Derek Fisher, his former teammate, and admires Knicks executives Steve Mills and Allan Houston.
Derek Fisher is more intriguing in this than Durant and Anthony’s friendship. When Derek Fisher first came to the Knicks, it was long considered by those who like the conspiracy theories that they brought Fisher in for 2 reasons.
1. He’s Phil Jackson’s guy.
2. Derek Fisher and Kevin Durant built a close relationship during Fisher’s time with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
While Fisher doesn’t have a lot of head coaching experience in the NBA, his knowledge of the game should definitely be an asset as he learns the ins and outs of coaching a team. It’s noticed as of late primarily due to the fact the Knicks have won 4 out of their last 5 games. So there’s a start, I guess. A head coach though with a relationship with a player is huge and undoubtedly would be something Durant considers.
The talks of this could mean 1 of 2 things, great success in New York or great turmoil due to the fact both players desire and require the ball.
Either way, it now adds the Knicks to a list of possible suitors for Durant that include his current team, the Thunder, the Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks and now the New York Knicks.
That’s the future, presently both Melo and Durant have some problems with their current teams they need to figure out.
