Benny Boom has shared another gem from the life and career of Nipsey Hussle. During an interview with Too Fab, the famed director revealed that Nipsey Hussle was originally chosen to play the role of Snoop Dogg in All Eyez On Me. Benny Boom told the site, “Nipsey was supposed to play Snoop, we wanted him to play Snoop in All Eyez On Me.” He added, “We didn’t have any other person that we wanted to play him.”
The director explained that Nipsey’s touring schedule and numerous philanthropic efforts made it nearly impossible to cast him for the role because he simply didn’t have time. Benny Boom said, “It’s crazy because I didn’t realize, as much as I knew Nipsey, I didn’t realize how much he was driving things in his community.” He continued, “And to take him out of LA for that amount of time that we needed to come to Atlanta where we shot, would’ve just threw him off his square a little bit. Just the timing didn’t work out.”
Jarrett Ellis was ultimately cast for the role of Snoop Dogg in All Eyez On Me. Other rappers cast in the film include Maino.
