To date, it hasn’t been 3 full months since the untimely and unfortunate death of Nipsey Hussle. A pillar in his community due to his efforts of giving back and with his music, Nipsey’s legacy continues to live on through family, friends, and fans that love him dearly.
Looking to recognize Nipsey Hussle for his charitable efforts and his missions of giving back where it mattered, BET will be honoring the rapping at the Humanitarian Award at the 2019 BET Awards.
“As a prolific artist and leader, Nipsey Hussle was zealous about driving change for the betterment of his community, empowering and employing those in need and being an influential and highly respected leader,” said BET’s Executive Vice-President, Head of Programming, Connie Orlando. “His passing was a tremendous loss to the entertainment industry and to the culture. We will continue to remember his advocacy and be inspired by the groundwork he set forth and his dire commitment to social change.” She continued, “We are forever grateful, humbled and honored to have experienced his presence and we are invested in doing our part to ensure that the marathon will indeed continue. It is an immense honor for us to recognize him with this year’s Humanitarian Award.”
More than deserving, we can only wish that Nipsey was alive and able to bask in the honor in person. To add to the honor, tribute performances by John Legend, YG and more will also take place to salute Nipsey. Nipsey joins Mary J. Blige and Tyler Perry in receiving major honors during the June 23 award show.
