If you’re not into the happenings in Europe let me fill you in.
For the past couple of days the French have been mourning the 12 people who were mercilessly killed by three Muslim men who took offense to the satirical French magazine Charlie Hebdo. They have been on the run since the shootings. The British government offered their agencies MI5 and MI6 to help with the manhunt. Several countries have held silent protests. But according to CNN, the murderers have been found and killed.
Four hostages were killed and 15 survived in the standoff between an armed terrorist and police at a Paris kosher grocery store on Friday.
The French government’s work is not over. There’s still a lot of healing to do, a lot of questions to answer about how to prevent future attacks, and the fact that a woman wanted in the policewoman’s shooting remains at large.
What’s great about the NBA is their globalization. The fact that they have players from all across the globe. Which is why when I saw Frenchman and Portland Trail Blazer Nicolas Batum wear a “Je Suis Charlie” shirt. I applauded it. And I also applaud Robin Lopez who also wore the shirt despite not being French. Terrorism is universal.
Two of the killers were French and the last killer, nobody actually knows his nationality. We do know that he is 18 which is harrowing. Considering I’m 18 and there are people in France, right next to my country. That commit crimes like this. But they’ve been found and killed.
The writers at Charlie Hebdo that survived the attack has said that they’ll release their magazine on Wednesday, as per usual. Despite the events that have occurred.
