There’s no stopping Nicki Minaj, even if she did just recently release her 3rd studio and is currently embarking on a worldwide tour. The ‘Anaconda’ hit-maker means business and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. With a new set of hits, ‘Hey Mama’ and ‘Throw Sum Mo’, climbing the charts, Nicki Minaj is making sure that her name in face with remain everywhere in 2014. Since the earliest days of her career, the Jamaica Queens rapper has voiced her passion for acting and wanting to grace the big screen. That dream came true as she appeared alongside the likes of Cameron Diaz in the romantic comedy, The Other Woman. Now, it seems that Nicki has her eyes set on another comedy as Barbershop 3 appears to be in the works.
New Line is making a deal to join MGM on Barbershop 3, the sequel that is coming together fast with deals being made for Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer to reprise their roles. The Best Man franchise director Malcolm D. Lee signed on to direct and they are making deals with Queen Latifah and Nicki Minaj among those in talks to round out the ensemble. Cube Vision is producing. MGM will run production and New Line will release the film. Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr. of State Street Pictures are the lead producers. Script is by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver. The first two films were released by MGM. The original grossed $75 million domestic in 2002 and the 2004 sequel grossed $65 million domestic.
It’ll be very intriguing to see exactly what role Nicki will be given, if she accepts. More importantly, as she has made her mark in Hip-Hop, it’ll be much more interesting to see if she can make such impact within Hollywood. We’ll have to wait and see. Would you like to see Nicki join Barbershop 3?
