Viacom’s Nickelodeon is preparing a presentation to their advertisers on Wednesday with an upcoming roster of content, according to Variety. One of the new shows being presented is a “live-action TV movie” adapted from Legends of the Hidden Temple, Nickelodeon’s popular kids game show from the 1990’s.
Nickelodeon will also be presenting their two-part TV movie for Hey Arnold. In addition will be an adventure docu-series called “All In” featuring Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and a sports highlights show called “Crashletes”.
Cyma Zarghami, the president of Viacom’s cable networks targeted at kids and families, commented to Variety in an interview:
“There’s a tremendous amount of attention on kids these days. What that says is there’s a tremendous amount of opportunity – not unlike what is going on in the grownup space. There is just more content everywhere.”
A reprise of Hidden Temple helps introduce a new but also classic brand of content for Nickelodeon. The concept is geared towards drawing in their current teen audience, but in reality, 20-somethings are the ones feeling nostalgic about Hidden Temple‘s return. That’s something that can potentially bridge an audience gap.
Hidden Temple is following three siblings that encounter a series of obstacles just to stay alive, much like the original game show but sounding more like a Maze Runner type of situation. The talking head from the game show, Olmec, will be included as revealing secrets of the temple, as well as other cameos from the original show.
The TV movie stars Isabela Moner (Nickelodeon’s 100 Things To Do Before High School) and is directed by Joe Menendez and written by Johnny Umansky, Zach Hyatt, and Alex Reid. It’s slated to debut in the fourth quarter of this year.
