Swaggy P doing Swaggy P things. This is more of Nick Young telling the future to possible free agents and even making sure that people know what might be going on in Los Angeles this upcoming season.
The tank might be in full affect in Lakers-land and that might be for the better. They Lakers have to finish in the top 5 worst records in the NBA to keep their protected first round pick so the Phoenix Suns don’t come away with it.
It looks right now, they’re in a good place.
So with that in place, the question about how much money they will have this summer for free agent arises as well, and in that aspect, they don’t have to worry either. After this season they will have an excess of $30 million or so to spend, depending how much the salary cap does go up. Kobe Bryant and Nick Young are the only 2 players who have guaranteed contracts that are over $5 million going into next season and while Kobe might be a candidate for a shut down, Nick Young is still in full effect for the Lakers doing all he can.
It seems like Swaggy P is even taking his hand in recruiting some players for next season already.
His first target, Phoenix Suns point guard, Goran Dragic.
From Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.
“It’s tough, but I know it’s going to get better,” Young told the Los Angeles News Group. “This offseason is going to be big for us. It’s going to work out.” …
“I told Goran Dragic on the court, ‘You might be my teammate next year.’” Young told the L.A. News Group shortly after the Lakers’ loss on Monday to the Phoenix Suns. “I’ll talk to Marc (Gasol.) Me and him are cool. Kevin Love, I’ll talk to him.”
Swaggy P, the Lakers’ free-agent pitchman?
The Lakers’ success in the free-agent market will rely on other factors, of course. The Lakers have enough cap space to sign one maximum-salary free agent. It appears likely recruiting efforts will mostly fall on Kobe Bryant, the Lakers’ 36-year-old star currently intent on playing out the final year of his contract next season that will pay him $25 million.
Well, you can’t blame Nick Young for trying to recruit one of the top free agents in the summer of 2015. Dragic tops a lot of teams lists for this summer’s free agency and for obvious reasons. He’s still relatively young at 28, he can maximize the most out of his talents right now and while he’s in his prime he might as well capitalize on it. He’s a guy, as proven this year with the Suns, that does whatever he needs to do for his team. Whether it be him handling the ball at the point, playing off the ball as the shooting guard or even taking a third role to other guys who are more proven scorers, Dragic has a multitude of talents.
As the pitchmen for LA, leading the way will be Kobe Bryant and Nick ‘Swaggy P’ Young, 2 guys that the Lakers will be happy to take the reigns of marketing Los Angeles to players.
I do believe that Dragic might bring this up in any conversations he has with ‘Swaggy P’ from their altercation last season.
