The Lakers season is pretty much over, and has been over since November. They’re 11-24 and might have become the second basketball team in Los Angeles to the 23-12 Clippers.
Once the laughing-stock and younger brother to the mighty Lakers, the Clippers have been a contender in the Western Conference for the past four years now, while the Lakers have faded away into mediocrity.
Nick “Swaggy P” Young, a current Laker and former Clipper who made the playoffs with the team in 2011-2012, prefers to play for the Lakers because of the “atmosphere of winning” when asked to compare the two teams.
“Being a Laker, there’s nothing like it,” Young said. “I think I learn more just being here and being around an atmosphere of winning, toughness and learning how to play under a great player like Kobe (Bryant).
Winning eh? Since playing for the purple and gold the Lakers have gone 38-79. Now Lakers fans before you jump up and scream about all the Lakers banners hanging in the Staples Center let me say this. The Lakers haven’t won a championship or have come close since I became over the drinking age limit so it’s been a while.
In sports it’s all about “what are you doing for me now,” and now the Lakers have become the little brother to the Clippers.
However I will give Swaggy some slack because he played for Donald Sterling, and not a “cool owner” like Steve Ballmer. Maybe after a few more Fergie songs, Swaggy will change his comments.
