“Mandy” star Nic Cage and that film’s production company SpectreVision are re-teaming for the previously announced film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s famed short story “The Color Out of Space” reports Production Weekly (via Bloody Disgusting).
Set in the wild hills west of Arkham in Massachusetts, Cage plays an affluent New Yorker and family man who has taken up residence on his father’s old farm homestead.
A meteorite crashes into their front yard, melting into the Earth and infecting both the land and the properties of space-time with a strange, otherworldly color. To their horror, the Gardner family discover that this alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches…including them.
Richard Stanley (“Hardware”) helms the film from his own screenplay while Joely Richardson, Tommy Chong, Elliot Knight, Julian Hilliard, and Q’Orianka Kilcher co-star. Filming begins next month in Portugal.
Lovecraft’s famed novellas and short stories have included the likes of “At the Mountains of Madness,” “Shadow over Innsmouth,” “The Whisperer in Darkness” and “The Call of Cthulhu” with his works going on to heavily influence writers and directors like John Carpenter, Guillermo del Toro, Stephen King, and Alan Moore.
