The biggest championship event of the year is here. Super Bowl 55! The long season has led us here and the matchup should be electric. Super Bowl Sunday odds are favoring Kansas City and Patrick Mahomes. However, they will have to get through Tom Brady and his arsenal of offensive weapons. At 43 years old Brady is defying time and age itself. He says he wants to play at least until he is 45. Possibly more. If Mahomes and the Chiefs take Brady down on Sunday it could be the demarcation line between the last generation and the new generation of quarterbacks.
This season has made some things apparent. Not only is Brady the GOAT, but Mahomes may be the next GOAT to step up. The young Kansas City QB has 38 touchdowns and six interceptions on the season to go along with three additional TDs rushing. He is the definition of the new age QB. Brady, coming into his 10th Super Bowl, has thrown 40 touchdowns and thrown 12 interceptions. He threw three in the conference championship game.
Both teams have the offensive tools to score tons of points. Will the Buccs and Chiefs slug it out and run the score up? Possibly. Mike Evans is deserving of a title for sure and I think will do everything in his power to bring one to Tampa. Tyreke Hill is going to have something to say about that on the other side as well. A repeat for Mahomes, with a win over Brady, would set him and Andy Reid on Brady/Bill Belichick trajectory potentially. This is a historical Super Bowl. So what do the odds say?
The Chiefs are favored heading into Sunday at -115 as a three-point favorite. The Buccs are -106 on the line and have a majority of the money in support of them. If you are looking for money line action, KC is at -162 and TB is sitting nicely at +140. What I am most interested in is the over/under of course. With so many offensive weapons on the field, the total has been set at 56. I think it could actually go well above that if Brady and Mahomes get into a throwing match.
On the season the Chiefs have only seven wins against the spread with one push. Their overall record is 7-10-1 ATS. However, they are 16-2 on the season as far as wins and losses go. Over/under has been sporadic as well. As for totals, they are 9-9 on the season over/under. In other words, smart money for the chiefs is on the money line. They are inconsistent ATS and even in over/under totals.
The Buccs have not won as many games as the Chiefs. They have five losses on the season, but 14 wins. ATS they are 11-8 overall, better than Kansas City. Tampa Bay is also 11-8 in totals hitting the over 11 times. Based on season stats maybe the money should be on the over and the Buccs covering. However, the Chiefs command a level of respect with their level of play this season.
