Good music is heard, but memorable music is felt. “Lost In Translation” by Nezi manages to fall into the latter category. Wrapped in the warmth of subtle, yet striking production, the Brooklyn-based singer’s latest track is written from the perspective of the “strong friend” who is unsure of what’s next for them in life. However, their identity as the “strong friend” bars them from truly asking for help or opening up to those closest to them.
“[I] don’t know which way to go. I don’t know. Things got mixed up. Now, I’m feeling stuck, but I don’t know. [It’s] got to be lost in translation,” she sings.
The brilliance of Nezi’s latest track lies not only in telling her truth from her perspective, but it lies in her songwriting. The lyrics of the track are ambiguous enough for the listener to mold the song to fit whatever they may be going through. For some, the track may be the perfect anthem as they work through an uncertain time in a relationship with that special someone. For me, it’s the perfect soundtrack as I find my way through an uncertain point in my professional career. Regardless of what a listener is going through, “Lost In Translation” can work for them.
