With the New York Knicks getting straight up stiffed in the NBA Draft Lottery, they need to refocus and go back to the drawing board. They were initially expecting a top 2 pick so they can Draft either Jahlil Okafor or Karl-Anthony Towns but since they only have the 4th pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, they better start planning to get somebody other than those two.
Now they have many, many needs, so whoever they pick it better be a well thought out one. They’ve been looking at the top guards Emmanuel Mudiay and D’Angelo Russell but reports are saying that Justise Winslow is really catching the Knicks’ eye.
They interviewed Winslow during the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago earlier this month and will likely hold a private workout with him prior to the draft.
One reason the Knicks should take a long look at Winslow is his potential to make an impact on defense. New York ranked 28th in defensive efficiency last season and last in opponent 3-point field goal percentage. The Knicks also ranked 27th in opponent field goal attempts per game.
If his scouting projections are correct, Winslow should be able to help the Knicks improve those numbers. He’s 6-6 with a 6-10 wingspan and has great strength and quick feet.
Now Winslow, in my opinion, would do alright in New York. He could slot in the small forward while Carmelo Anthony can do work in the power forward spot, where he feels most comfortable. And you know that they’ll take Winslow’s defensive prowess, they really need defense.
