The Knicks had arguably one of the biggest offseason in the NBA this summer, starting with the acquisition of Derrick Rose. The Knicks traded for Derrick Rose in an attempt to solve their point guard problem, trading away Robin Lopez and Jose Calderon for the former MVP. After Rose joined the Knicks, the dominos began to fall, as they signed Rose’s former Bulls teammate and former Defensive Player of the Year Joakim Noah. After signing Courtney Lee to round out the 5 starters for the Knicks, New York is finally a playoff contender once again. After being at the bottom of the barrel in the Eastern Conference and finishing 32-50 on the year, good for 13th in the East, Carmelo Anthony and the newly revamped Knicks will try to put their past behind them with the new 2016-2017 NBA schedule:
New York opens its season on October 25th, visiting the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers in what will be the first game of the 2016-’17 NBA season.
The Knicks were also awarded a Christmas Day game, opening up the day with an early 12:00 game inside Madison Square Garden against the rival Boston Celtics.
They’re also scheduled to travel to Chicago for a November 4th game, the first time Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose will be back in the United Center since signing with the Knicks.
The biggest concern for the New York Knicks will be the obvious health issues of Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Carmelo Anthony, who have all missed a concerning amount of time with nagging injuries of their own. The sky isn’t the limit for the Knicks, the amount of game they play together is what their limit is. The more amount of time these 3 players get to play together, the more amount of wins this Knicks team will have next year.
