A story recently came out, courtesy of ESPN and Zach Lowe, detailing a team that almost was. The New Jersey Swamp Dragons.
Back before the Brooklyn Nets moved to the city that never sleeps they were located in New Jersey, East Rutherford to be exact and right until February of this year, the Nets actually had their practice facility still located in East Rutherford with the new Giants stadium in the background. They were in East Rutherford and if anyone has ever been to or drove through that area, you know that area can only be described in one way. A swamp.
The Nets were looking to rebrand in the 90’s and they looked at one place that properly described that area perfectly. They wanted to become the New Jersey Swamp Dragons and their plan was all done except for one thing, one of their owners voted against the change and thus putting the Swamp Dragons in the bin of the ‘what-ifs’ in NBA history.
