Aaron McGruder has been fairly quiet over the last few years. Most recently, the Boondocks creator has been working on an upcoming show called Black America. The Amazon Video production is believed to exist on an alternate timeline in which Black Americans received three states as reparations for slavery. Since announcing the series, we haven’t heard much from the creative until today.
In honor of Black History Month, McGruder has released a new comic strip of his classic Boondocks series. The comic strips were first unveiled by Charlamagne Tha God of The Breakfast Club on Tuesday. The new comic strips touch on a number of relevant topics including the “Mute R. Kelly” movement, Donald Trump and much more.
When the comics were released, McGruder wrote, “These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Seung Kim, who did the animation for the old show – and he’s a busy guy.” He added, “Thanks to him and thanks to Charlamagne for putting these out for me while I get my instagram act together.”
The release of the comics comes just in time for the 20th anniversary of the comic strip’s national debut back in 1999. Check out the full comic strips above.
