The Sixers are reportedly working on a trade with the Nets that would send small forward Andrei Kirilenko to Philadelphia. The Nets would also send the Sixers a draft pick. Kirilenko is averaging 4.7 minutes in his final year of his deal with the Nets.
The Sixers have over $30 million in cap space which makes them a huge target for teams looking to great rid of heavy contracts. The Sixers future definitely looks bright with the amount of money the have. The Sixers are $26.5 million below the salary cap space and can really orchestrate any trade.
How would this benefit the Nets you ask? The Nets are expected to pay $90.57 in luxury tax to the NBA for being close to $30 million over the salary cap. Getting rid of Kirilenko will save the money they have to pay him at the end of the season, and they will also avoid paying the fine for having his salary on the roster.
Sixers are also expected to waive Kirilenko , and he will remain sidelined until the end of February, after his pregnant wife gives birth. Kirilenko could look to join a contender come February? Maybe join the Spurs or maybe even reunite with David Blatt, who coached him on the Russian National Team.
