The Wizards wanting to keep Porter on a cheap deal is a no-brainer given their salary cap situation but matching him isn’t all that bad either. He might not be a max level player in the eyes of some but it’s a move many teams do to other teams facing tough money decisions. The Nets did it last year, not once but twice.
But for Washington, it would be hard to just let Porter go for nothing. Outside of Kelly Oubre Jr, there’s no clear replacement a the level of Porter. He’s a great three-and-d option who doesn’t demand the ball and fits pretty well alongside John Wall and Bradley Beal.
