The hunt for a new head coach continues in the New York borough of Brooklyn. They were stupidly going for John Calipari even when Cal has said many times that he has “The best job in basketball”. Which is not that far off a true statement as head coach of the University of Kentucky.
So now that they’ve stopped it with the stupid talk, they’re finally looking in more realistic directions. ESPN’s Marc Stein and Mike Mazzeo are reporting the Nets’ interest in Tom Thibodeau.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Nets, while in the early stages of a search for both a new lead executive and a new coach in the wake of ousting both general manager Billy King and Lionel Hollins, are likely to pursue Thibodeau once they can secure a successor to King.
I am so glad they are looking for a general manager and then hunting for a coach. The number one objective is to focus on the long term. They have no short term at all. Get a GM that has a good plan of action, after that. Get a coach that knows what is going to happen and is willing to take L’s for the next few years. I’m not sure if Tom Thibodeau wants to sacrifice some of his +.600 career record for the Nets but I can see him taking the job. No matter the connection, this is more realistic than Calipari going to Brooklyn.
