The Brooklyn Nets are finally making moves that will make their financial lives happier. But am I giving the Nets front office credit for something that Deron Williams wanted? Probably.
Williams asked for a buyout and the Nets catered for him. Deron is now a Dallas Maverick, if you follow his wife on Instagram you notice that he’s ‘coming home’ so Williams is riding in the sunset. Meanwhile in the basketball version of Gotham City, their GM Billy King and head coach Lionel Hollins are already commenting on it.
“I think we both made it work — tried to make it work — I think we had some great moments with him,” King said, speaking prior to the Nets’ summer league game in Las Vegas.
What has been good about Deron Williams’ stint in Brooklyn? Seriously name one point when Deron Williams was 1) Happy about being in Brooklyn and 2) Actually playing well.
Don’t worry I’ll wait. While you attempt to gather information, here’s Lionel Hollins assuming Williams leaving was caused by him.
“You do not coach in the NBA and not have confrontation,” Hollins said. “If you don’t have confrontation, but you’re trying to impose your will on players to do what is best for the team, and a lot of the time players have their own mindset of what’s best for them. And so ‘clash’ is a wrong word, and if people think Deron Williams was let go because something happened between us, then I should have let Zach Randolph go, I should have let Tony Allen go, I should have let Marc Gasol go, I should have let Rudy Gay go.“
Do you have any good moments yet? Exactly, Deron Williams has been below average ever since he left Utah. He’s had chronic injuries and all I say to the Dallas Mavericks is have fun with that.
