Netflix is going all-in on Ted Bundy. Recently, they released the documentary that detailed the notorious Bundy tapes and now they’ve received the rights to Zac Efron’s biopic of the notorious killer ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile’.
According to THR, Netflix has secured a $9 million deal for U.S. rights and some international territories for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. The streaming platform had competition in STX and Lionsgate, but their efforts in the bidding war failed.
While I’m not exactly sold on Efron’s performance as the charming and evil killer, his performance was praised at the Sundance Film Festival where the film debut. A theatrical release is planned for the movie and then, like all other Netflix films, the movie will land on the streaming service for people to enjoy from home.
One point to bring up from this deal is that STX and Lionsgate tried to nab this film but Netflix prevailed. Just another push in the direction of ultimately being able to stream everything off of any device. Thank you, Netflix.
For those of you who don’t know Ted Bundy or his notorious crimes, here’s a brief summary:
Theodore Robert Bundy was an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls during the 1970s and possibly earlier. After more than a decade of denials, he confessed to 30 homicides that he committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978.
So before you go out of your way to fall in love with Efron as a maniac. Remember, this is just a movie.
