The acclaimed director has created pieces of content such as 13th, Selma, Queen Sugar and A Wrinkle In Time. Now, she’s set to deliver one of her most powerful pieces of content yet. Next month, Ava DuVernay will release her latest work, When They See Us. Today, Netflix dropped the lead trailer for the The Central Park 5 inspired series.
In this moving trailer, viewers get the first look at the gut wrenching portrayal of The Central Park 5 case that landed five innocent Black children in jail for a crime they did not commit. Throughout the trailer, we get our first look at the cast which includes Niecy Nash, Storm Reid, Felicity Huffman, Michael K. Williams, Jovan Adepo and many more. The series will hit Netflix on May 31st with an unidentified number of episodes.
In describing this series, DuVernay said, “In their journey, we witness five innocent young men of color who were met with injustice at every turn.” She added, “From coerced confessions to unjust incarceration to public calls for their execution by the man who would go on to be the President of the United States.”
