Netflix’s acclaimed series The Crown has, for the first two seasons, followed a young Queen Elizabeth II as she adjusts to life as a monarch. However, that’s all about to change with the upcoming third season.
Olivia Colman, fresh off an Oscar-winning performance as another queen, has been tapped to take over for Claire Foy in season three. This season will see an older Queen Elizabeth as she’s now a “settled sovereign” according to her aide in the teaser. But, she’s obviously struggling to come to terms with that in the trailer and it will likely be the main internal struggle faced by the monarch in the upcoming season.

Netflix intends for The Crown to run for six 10-episode seasons, each covering about a decade. New actors are cast every two seasons to account for the characters’ aging. Colman is joined in her first season on the show by Tobias Menzies and Helena Bonham Carter as Prince Philip and Princess Margaret, respectively. Emma Corrin has been cast as Princess Diana but, the character reportedly isn’t set to appear until next season.
The Crown season 3 hits Netflix on November 17th.
