Netflix has given the green light to another hip hop project.
Live Nation Productions, Def Pictures, WorldStar Hip Hop and Hunting Lane Films have teamed up for the coming of age movie “The After Party.” This will be the first Live Nation Productions film. Wiz Khalifa, Teyana Taylor, French Montana and XXL Freshman Kyle will have roles in the movie. Blair Underwood, Cody Christian and Shelley Hennig will also star in the film.
The film is about two high school seniors trying to get into the music industry. If not, one will go to college and the other one will head to the military. Set in New York, the film will have actual scenes from the Meadows Music and Arts Festival.
Def Pictures is Russell Simmons’ new production company, and he will have a role in producing “The After Party.” Lee “Q” O’Denat, the founder of WorldStar Hip Hop who died in January, was also a producer. O’Denat was “inspired to develop the idea because of his love of classic films like ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ and ‘American Graffiti,’” according to the film’s news release.
“The After Party” is another film or television show by Netflix centered around hip hop. Previously, the network invested in “The Get Down” and “Hip Hop Evolution.”
According to IMDB, the film will be released in 2018.
