Netflix is making an effort to reign supreme in the constant streaming wars. With the announcement of NBC’s new streaming service, Netflix has decided to make an announcement of their own. According to a report from CNBC, Netflix has elected to raise its subscription fee again. The report from CNBC states, “Netflix’s cheapest basic plan will cost $9, up from $8; its most popular HD standard plan will cost $13, up from $11; and its 4K premium plan will cost $16, up from $14.”
The changes in price will begin immediately for new customers and existing customers will be ushered in over the first three months of the year. While the price surge may come as surprise to some, it has become the norm for the streaming service. This price increase marks the fourth increase in price since the service launched. However, the increases in price seem to have little affect on the number of subscribers. Last quarter, Netflix reported that the number of subscribers grew by 10.7% to a whopping 58 million subscriptions. Outside of the U.S., Netflix reports 78 million subscribers. To top it all off, Netflix stocks have grown as well.
