In a society where unarmed black men being killed by law enforcement has become a recurring news story, the number of films and TV series portraying this reality have increased. Over the years, we’ve seen films like Fruitvale Station, Do The Right Thing and The Hate U Give. On the small screen, we’ve seen series such as Shots Fired, Black-ish and The Carmichael Show touch on these topics in passing. Not to mention, documentaries such as 3 1/2 Minutes and Baltimore Rising also touch on these topics. Now, a new Netflix film called See You Yesterday is putting its own spin on this discussion.
Netflix has unleashed the trailer for their new series, See You Yesterday. Starring Eden-Duncan Smith and Danté Crichlow, the series follows two teenagers as they build a time travelling machine to save the main character’s brother from being killed by a police officer. Initially released as a short film back in 2017, the movie was a finalist at the HBO Short Film Competition. Since then, it has lived on Cinemax Go. Thankfully, it’s being brought to a larger audience on Netflix this May.
Check out the trailer as we prepare for this new Spike Lee backed film.
