Netflix has landed a forty-episode run of an animated series stylized from the Angry Birds iPhone game turned film franchise. Led by Rovio Entertainment, the series will feature forty episodes lasting eleven minutes each. The new series will follow the adventures of Red, Bomb and Chick and their group of friends. Currently, the working title of the series is Angry Birds: Summer Madness.
“Angry Birds have been a true phenomenon for kids around the world and we’re excited to bring them home to the nest at Netflix where they will be angrier and bird-ier than ever,” Director of Original Animated Series Curtis Lelash said.
“Angry Birds animated content plays a key role in our long-term franchise strategy. After more than a decade in hit games, blockbuster movies and licensed products, this is the Angry Birds’ first foray into a long-form series. We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Cake and can’t wait to unveil the world of Angry Birds: Summer Madness to viewers on Netflix,” Rovio CMO Ville Heijari said.
Angry Birds: Summer Madness will join an original animated series lineup that includes BoJack Horseman, Disenchantment and Big Mouth. The new series will hit Netflix in 2021.
