It’s hard to believe, but next month will mark the tenth anniversary of Barack Obama being elected as the first Black President in American history. With everything that our country faces both politically and socially involving race, culture and economics, this anniversary seems to hold even more weight than it already did. Not to mention, it feels as if these past ten years have flown by. Now out of office, Obama has been seen vacationing, sending his oldest daughter off to college and shifting his focus towards community building.
In addition to his continued political engagement, Obama has also ventured into the world of entertainment. In May, Barack and Michelle Obama finalized a deal with Netflix to produce series and films for the streaming service. After announcing the deal, Barack Obama said, “One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life.”
As these series goes into development, anticipation continues to build. The Obama family has continued to build intrigue in to what they can do in the world of politics, entertainment and beyond. When asked about the focus of their content thus far, Netflix Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos stated that viewers shouldn’t expect anything “too heavy” or “political” from the first family.
Being that Barack Obama has never been afraid of displaying his sports fandom, it is no surprise that he may be looking to create a sports series. The same could be said about Michelle Obama’s interest in nutrition throughout her work in the White House. There is no clear release date for their work, but we will continue to update you as details become available.
