As with every holiday season, Netflix is set to deliver a few marquee releases, including some themed for the season. However, first up we’ve got a bevy of new, non-original content hitting the service to kick off the month. On the 1st, A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish will hit the platform alongside the first season of a very intriguing South Korean adaptation of Suits. We’ll also be getting two seasons of Sonic X for all you Sonic stans who need something to tide you over until the live-action film drops in February. By far, the headliner of the December 1st additions though is Sweet Virginia, a 2017 thriller starring Jon Bernthal that slipped under just about everyone’s radar.
Later that week on the 5th, Netflix starts rolling out their holiday originals with A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby and the first season of Norway’s Home for Christmas. A day later on the 6th, Netflix continues their campaign for an Oscar with Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johannson. A week later, a Netflix original that’s decidedly less awards-oriented but extremely exciting nonetheless hits the platform in 6 Underground, Michael Bay’s latest bombastic action-thriller starring Ryan Reynolds as the leader of a team of billionaires-turned vigilantes.
Nothing too huge is dropping over the next week. Though season 4 of Syfy’s cult hit The Magicians and Ronny Chieng’s first stand-up special, Asian Comedian Destroys America! will become available on the 16th and 17th, respectively. The last 10 days of the month are then a whirlwind as another Oscar-hopeful, The Two Popes and the first season of The Witcher both release on the 20th. The second season of Lost in Space comes just in time for Christmas on the 24th, followed shortly thereafter on the 26th by the former Lifetime original series, You.
The first season of Netflix’s animated original Fast & Furious: Spy Racers also drops on the 26th. A day later, the first season of the Turkish thriller, The Gift, drops alongside Kevin Hart’s next stand-up special, Don’t F*ck This Up. Netflix then ends the year with a whole host of new international series as the anime reboot, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened drops on the 30th; followed by the first seasons of both Ares, a Dutch supernatural series, and Spectros, a Portuguese thriller on the 31st.
