Idris Elba‘s war drama Beasts of No Nation will be distributed by Netflix worldwide.
Uzodinma Iweala’s novel is being adapted for the screen by writer-director Cary Fukunaga, who won an Emmy for his work on True Detective.
Netlfix announced today (March 3) that Beasts of No Nation will open in select cinemas in the US and on its streaming platform for the rest of the world later this year.
Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said this about the deal:
“Beasts of No Nation is a powerful film that unfolds beautifully in the hands of director Cary Fukunaga, with Idris Elba delivering a career-defining performance.
“We are so proud to bring a film of this calibre exclusively to Netflix members around the world at the same time as it appears in select theaters.”
Beasts of No Nation sees Elba as a West African military leader who drafts a young boy into his army of child soldiers.
Production on Beasts of No Nation took place summer in Eastern Ghana.
