After Nene fouled out and failed to score in a 97-92 loss to the Chicago Bulls, the amount of foul trouble Nene has been getting in needs to be fixed. After claiming he hates the Bulls, most were expecting a huge performance from Nene, similar to the performance he put up in the playoffs last season.
In Nene’s defense, he has been getting hacked lately, and NBA officials seem to be letting a lot of contact go. Being a strong guy, some of the officials most likely are expecting Nene to finish through all of the contact, which has been to be a hard task to complete. Rather than continuing to play through the contact, Nene often complains to the refs, goes and hacks somebody on the defensive end, and has a foul called on himself. Talking to refs after bad calls needs to end to help gain more calls later on in the game.
Gortat’s lack of production on the offensive has been hurting Nene a lot on the defensive side of the ball so far this season. Teams know if they can foul out Nene, the paint points will decrease drastically for the Wizards. Gortat is going to need to begin to produce for Nene to be able to stay out of foul trouble and help this team win games.
Statistics show that when Nene fouls out, the Wizards struggle to score, and struggle to win games. Other teams across the league notice this and make their game plans around this to help their team win. When they notice the inability of the offensive play of the Wizards without Nene, they are going to continue to attack him when the ball is in their hands.
Nene needs some extra touches in the low post so he can boost the intensity he is bringing to the rest of the game. When Nene is rolling offensively, his defensive intensity rises, and his awareness on the court increases. If the Wizards want to start winning more games, they need Nene to play like he did against the Bulls in the playoffs, not like he did against the Bulls last night.
