Washington Wizards forward Nene took some time out of his schedule to volunteer with the charity Blessings In A Backpack. The charity works to give underprivileged children food to bring home on the weekends to ensure they have food to eat when not receiving meals at school.
Following From Blessing In A Backpack.
Blessings in a Backpack provides elementary schoolchildren who are on the federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Program with a backpack of food to take home for 38 weekends during the school year. Backpack food includes easy-to-prepare, ready-to-eat foods, like granola bars, juice boxes, mac and cheese, and oatmeal.
Throughout the experience, Nene spent a lot of time outside with the kids, which is another essential part to making sure all children grow up as healthy and well-rounded as they can.
It’s great to see athletes like Nene giving back to the community to show the fans that the athletes are also there to support fans when needed. Many athletes are so blessed now with huge contract payouts, so when they spend time giving back, all can see why these people are so valuable.
