The Denver Nuggets strongly disappointed this season. Going into the season, many(including myself) thought that they would have a good season due to their strong depth. However, the team was awful, going 30-52 on the season.
The Nuggets have been trying to build around Ty Lawson and Kenneth Faried for quite some time now, but that plan hasn’t been too successful, and the players may be getting sick of it. Per Basketball Insiders’ Steve Kyler:
“Sources close to the process say Lawson and Faried have kept no secret of their discontent and unless the Nuggets can pull off something major on the coaching front or make a significant trade, both have indicated they’d rather see a trade instead of sticking around for a long rebuild.”
Lawson and Faried are both valuable assets, and the Nuggets should be able to find suitors for both of them if the team can’t make a move major enough to convince the players to stay. Lawson has shown he has the ability to be one of the best point guards in the league, and Faried is an exceptional athlete with a high motor and a nose for rebounding.
There have been reports that the Nuggets have been looking into trading away Lawson already, but it is yet to be seen if many teams have expressed interest. Dallas is one team whose name has come up, as they could use a point guard with the all-but-certain departure of Rajon Rondo.
It’s hard to see the Nuggets being able to land a big enough player to convince Lawson and Faried to stay on, so if they can, their best option may be to trade the two away for assets and begin a full-blown rebuild.
