The Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Summer League debut of Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker. Cavs pulled out the victory in the end, 70-68 to cap off a great day for Cleveland.
The Cavs first overall pick this year shined in the victory for Cleveland, posting 18 points and 3 rebounds for the Cavs. Anthony Bennett, last years number one overall pick, put up 15 points and 7 rebounds for Cleveland. The Aussie, Matthew Dellavedova dropped 13 on 3-11 shooting, but got 6 assists and 9 rebounds for the Cavs. Alex Kirk also pulled down a game high 15 rebounds. Wiggins had a multitude of athletic plays including this ridiculous botched alley-oop. Just look at his hops.
On the other side the Bucks first round pick, Jabari Parker and last years rookie standout who actually grew a few inches, Giannis Antetokounmpo, combined for 34 points for Milwaukee each chipping in 17 points. The ‘Greek Freak’ also had an insane play where he only took two dribbles to get down the court and throw down a slam. But that was about it for the Bucks, no one else really contributed besides guard Nate Wolters who had 7, and had a chance at the end to take the lead on a late three but came up short. Center Johnny O’Bryant also came off the bench and contributed 8 points and three rebounds.
Overall the Parker versus Wiggins match up was great, amazing for summer league and a good look at the future of Cleveland as well as the Bucks. Parker used his size and strength to muscle Wiggins while Wiggins used his athleticism and quickness to run all around Parker, great match up for years to come. Beyond Wiggins and Parker, the right guys shined in Bennett and Antetokounmpo also a great game from Dellavedova.
