Change could be coming to the NBA. Commissioner Adam Silver said today that he and the league owners are looking into issues to improve the game and see if any changes need to be made. These changes include the playoffs, back-to-backs, and possibly extending the season.
Silver on possible changes:
“It’s not to say that we don’t think there should be a change,” Silver said. “I think this is one of these issues that is going to require a fair amount of discussion and study, not just directly among the owners in the big room, with committees as well.”
Silver did hint about possible changes to the schedule next season, saying the season maybe extended by a week, while reducing the number of back-to-backs to 16 per team, with an average of just one four in five nights stretch per team.
Something that is interesting was when Silver mentioned about a possible play in-game for a playoff spot where a certain number of teams may play against each other to grab the last playoff spot in each conference.
“I have to say I am intrigued by that idea,” Silver said. “It’s something we’ve talked about before.”
Some interesting things are being discussed by the owners, whether they actually go through with them remains to be seen.
